So, what is damp proofing and why is it so important? The term 'damp proofing' is commonly used to describe the action of installing a damp proof treatment which protects a building against the elements. This is a specialist powder that is then mixed with water. It is then applied to walls and once it dries it forms an impenetrable water barrier. It can then be painted over just like plaster.

This usually takes the form of a large polypropylene roll with raised dimples which allows the wall to breathe but also make it fully waterproof.
